The perspective of Anna Byskov is a blend of different nations, cities, and dialects. I am unsure of where I belong, but I am a part of the ever-changing landscapes that I encounter along the way. My surroundings, my observations, and my experiences serve as the inspiration for my unique tale.
As someone with a blend of English, Danish, and Swiss heritage, I inevitably make mistakes in all of my languages and do not feel at ease with any of them. I question the words I wish to use, striving for precision, but often mixing them up. Expressing myself has unexpectedly turned into an exploration, a journey of its own. My words drift between sense and nonsense, traversing confusion and uncertainty, ultimately creating a poetic space in my writing, videos, and performances. I like to refer to my work as a blur.
In 2009, I left Geneva to pursue my art studies at La Villa Arson in Nice. In 2015, I acquired an art studio at the Fondation des Artistes in Nogent-sur-Marne. My work has been showcased in various institutions, such as the Centre Pompidou in Paris, Le Générateur in Gentilly, and Le Confort moderne in Poitier, as well as more informal locations like Openspace in Nancy, OrNothing in Brussels, and Le Narcissio in Nice.
Currently, I split my time between Paris, Mulhouse, and Geneva, constantly moving from one place to another. I am not tied down, and I continue my research and creative work wherever I find myself, irrespective of the environment. I have blurred the lines between my art and my life, constantly gathering material and fueling my imagination – because nothing is ever static or fully achieved. Thus, I see my work as a punctuation mark, playing a role in many other situations, triggering a continuous system.
